Rescued Siberian Huskies Receiving Care After Being Found Abandoned In Shankarpally Village Near Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Animal welfare volunteers rescued 11 Siberian Huskies and one German Shepherd from Bhanur village in Shankarpally. They found the dogs abandoned and wandering in a dehydrated condition.

Animal welfare organisations reported a sharp rise in adoption requests after the rescue news spread online.

Activists first discovered a group of abandoned dogs in the village. In the following days, villagers spotted more dogs roaming the area. They immediately alerted volunteers.

Members of the AASRA Foundation received a distress call on Tuesday night. They reached the village on Wednesday and rescued two more huskies.

Medical tests underway

Gowri Vandhana, president of AASRA Foundation, said the team is conducting blood tests to check the dogs’ health.

She added that the foundation will involve a government institute for further testing. “We have written to the Veterinary Biological and Research Institute for additional tests,” she said.

The team will put the huskies up for adoption after completing medical examinations.

Over 500 adoption requests

The foundation said it has already received over 500 adoption applications.

Volunteers said the dogs were weak and dehydrated when rescued. They are now providing food, shelter, and medical care to the animals.
